Poet DON WELCH is a Nebraska native and the author of many collections of poetry, including Deadhorse Table, Handwork, The Rarer Game, The Keeper of Miniature Deer, The Marginalist, Every Mouth of Autumn Says Goodbye, The Breeder of Archangels/Requiem for Stanley Smith, Inklings: Poems Old and New, and The Alley Poems. His most recent book is Travels (Finishing Line Press, 2010). In 1980 he won the Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry, judged by William Stafford. He holds a BA from Kearney State, an MA from the University of Northern Colorado, and a PhD from the University of Nebraksa — Lincoln. He served as a consultant and participant in the ETV documentary, Last of the One-Room Schools, televised in September of 1995, and worked for ten years in the Poets-in-the-Schools program in Nebraska. He retired as Reynolds Professor of Literature at the University of Nebraska — Kearney. He lives in Kearney with his wife, Marcia, and is a long-time racer of homing pigeons.
