Poet MICHAEL SKAU
is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of English at the
University of Nebraska Omaha, where he taught from Fall 1973
until Fall 2011.
He earned his BA, MA, and PhD from the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign, and his academic specialties are 20th-century American
and English literature, especially Beat poetry.
He studied under William S Burroughs, Gregory Corso,
and Allen Ginsberg at the Naropa Institute (now university).
In addition to many scholarly articles on post-World War II American
writers and books of literary criticism
Beat poets Gregory Corso and Lawrence Ferlinghetti,
he has published short stories, a chapbook of poetry
(Me and God, available from
bradypress), and
over one hundred poems in
Carolina Quarterly, Northwest Review, Paintbrush, Kansas
Quarterly, Laurel Review, and elsewhere.
He is currently
working on several long poems and a book-length children's poem.
