JANELLE M MASTERS,
a native Nebraskan, is a mother, a fiction writer, a poet, a former forensics coach, and a
performer. Her poetry has appeared in Midwest Quarterly, Prairie Schooner, Margie, RUNES, Poetry Motel, The
Common Ground Review, The Scrivener, Whole Notes, The Elkhorn Review, The Rectangle,
Nebraska Life, Theology Today, and elsewhere. Her poetry chapbook
Flash Flood was a finalist in Main Street Rag's competition, and is
forthcoming. Masters has won a Merit Award from the Nebraska Arts Council in 2000 for her
poetry. Her prose has appeared in Brevity and Platte Valley Review.
She is also a 2003 recipient of the Merit Award from the Nebraska Arts Council for
prose. Works of poetry and prose have been included in two anthologies.
After living in California and Wyoming, she now lives in Hastings with a park for her front
yard, and teaches English at Hastings Senior High School. She holds an MA in education from
Claremont Graduate University, an MA in creative writing from the University of Nebraska
Kearney, and a BA from the University of Nebraska Kearney, where she
completed the first honors program poetry thesis under the direction of Don Welch.
