JOE E HOLOUBEK, MD is a retired physician and
the author of Letters to Luke (Little Dove Press, 2004).
He is a distinguished member of the Catholic Academy of Sciences of
the United States of America, an organization limited to fifty Catholic scholars of
academic stature who have earned doctorate degrees. As members of the
Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, he and his wife, Alice, also a physician,
toured the Holy
Land. The Drs Holoubek are also founding members of St Joseph Catholic
Church in Shreveport. His extensive list of published works includes articles on
cardiology, medical ethics and health care of the clergy and religious. He is a
graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. She was among the
first women to graduate from LSU School of Medicine New Orleans. For more
than forty years they practiced internal medicine together in Shreveport, LA,
where he chaired the founding committee for a new LSU School of Medicine. He
is former president of the National Federation of Catholic Physicians Guilds,
the Louisiana Heart Society and Tri-State Medical Society. He and his wife
received joint citations from the National Conference of Christians and Jews and
the LSU Medical Center Alumni Association. They met in 1937
during a summer fellowship at Mayo Clinic and wrote almost daily until they
married in 1939. Alice, his greatest source of inspiration, died
in January 2005.
