Screenwriter and film critic GWENDOLYN FOSTER
is an Associate Professor in the Department of English, University of Nebraska
Lincoln, specializing in Film Studies, Cultural Studies, and Postfeminist Critical Theory.
Her original screenplays include
Squatters (1995), The Women Who Made the Movies, writer, director, producer (1992), and
Coming Attractions, co-writer, director, producer (1988).
Her recent books include Experimental Cinema: The Film Reader, with
Wheeler Dixon (Routledge, 2002),
Captive Bodies: Postcolonial Subjectivity in Cinema (State University of New York Press, 1999), and
Troping the Body: Etiquette, Conduct and Dialogic Performance (Southern Illinois University Press, 2000).
Forthcoming are the revised and updated American edition of Identity and Memory: The Films of Chantal Akerman
(Southern Illinois University Press, 2003) and Performing Whiteness (State University of New York Press, 2003).
She is
Editor-in-Chief of the Quarterly Review of Film and Video,
an internationally distributed quarterly academic journal on film studies.
