The Appointment
How to Make an Appointment
- The preferred way to make or cancel an appointment is "in person" via our self-service appointment book, located on our front desk. You may try calling to make or cancel an appointment but we are often unable to answer our phone. So, please, utilize the self-service appointment book on our front desk.
- Appointments are usually 25 minutes long, and you have the option to sign up for two consecutive appointments for larger writing projects or papers.
Some Suggestions
- The appointment book tends to fill up quickly, so when you can, make appointments as far in advance as possible. You will have a better chance of securing an appointment and will have more time to incorporate ideas generated during your session.
- If possible, try to bring as much information about the writing project as possible: any outlines and/or brainstorming, the assignment, a professor's written comments and/or expectations, peer responses, and anything else that might be of use.
- Be sure to bring a printed copy of the writing project, unless you prefer to work from a laptop, PDA, or other resource.
Cancellations
- The Writing Center has a STRICT cancellation / no-show policy:
- If you do come to the Writing Center and erase your name from the appointment book, this is not a "no-show." A "no-show" occurs when we have no in-person notification of your inability to be present for the appointment.
- If we record two "no-shows," then you will lose Writing Center privileges for one month, and all appointments you may have already made would be cancelled.
- Any missed hour-long appointment counts as two half hour appointments, and thus two "no-shows."
- We understand that the people we serve are very busy. At the same time, please be aware that our waiting lists are often long: the appointment that you miss would be gladly taken by another student.
