RE: Welcome and announcements

As the new director of the World Literature program, I would, firstly, like to express to Professor Fidel Fajardo my appreciation for the wonderful work that he accomplished for the program these past years and his assistance during this transitional period and, secondly, welcome you back to Creighton.

The summer is quickly over and the academic year is already before us. I hope, despite its shortness, your summer was both relaxing and stimulating. If not, I believe the World Literature Program has at least an exciting program for you this fall. Please note the following information and events in planning your syllabi.

AUGUST WORLD FACULTY WORKSHOP (August 19-20)

This August workshop will focus essentially on Japan. We will have exciting presentations and discussions, so we hope you will all be able to attend. On Wednesday 19 the workshop will be held from 2-3pm and Thursday 20 from 9am-3pm. Refreshments and a bag lunch will be provided on Thursday.

STUDENT SPECIAL EVENTS FOR FALL 1998

World Literature students are required, as usual, to attend two out-of-class events. Please list, if possible, these out-of-class assignments on your syllabi and encourage your students to attend either one of these main sponsored events:

We also have additional recommended events (The Missouri Valley Reading Series and Joslyn Art Museum Exhibits) that might be of interest to both you and your students. The complete program is available on the web at:

We will provide you with more information as it becomes available.

SYLLABI AND OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT ESSAYS

Please send me a copy of each section of your World Literature syllabus in addition to that submitted to the English Department. Also, please do not forget to turn in your spring 1998 Outcomes Assessment Essays by October 1, 1998

Thanks for attentively reading these announcements, and I wish you all a great academic year!
