Quizzes will feature objective questions dealing with authors and texts, names, dates, forms/genres, contents of the works (plots, characters, details), historical and cultural events and contexts, and literary and other terminology. The relevant information will be drawn from the web outlines, the lectures and the textbook. For the purposes of this quiz, the main texts are:

You will be expected to know the following:

dates of major historical and cultural events (from the lectures and timelines drawn in class)

authors' names and approximate dates of activity

texts' titles and relevant dates of composition/writing

the main actions or situations described in the texts read, including the names of major characters and significant details

names of the cultures and geographical areas associated with the authors/texts read

major cultural characteristics or accomplishments of each of the cultures associated with the texts read

major historical events and individuals (with dates) relevant to the cultures associated with the texts read

accurate definitions of the following terms (see Glossary):

Notice that, in addition to the preceding, the instructor may ask one or more questions drawn from lecture materials not included in the study outlines or in the textbook. For this reason it is advisable to review class notes before a quiz.
