Norbert Zaenglein is the author of The Last Autopsy & Other Inimitable
Tales, a collection that encompasses five extraordinary stories of
unprecedented originality. Often surreal, dark, and Kafkaesque, each
story represents a startling vision of our world beyond the conventional
spectrum. Zaenglein's disquieting visions are often startling,
idiosyncratic, and seasoned with controversy. The author makes no
concessions to market forces or to the conventional etiquette of fiction
The results are striking creations that defy traditional expectations.
Zaenglein has created a compelling style for readers who are unafraid to
venture into the twilight and explore life^-s dark and distant
peripheries.
Single-title review copies of The Last Autopsy were first published in
2000. The Last Autopsy was nearly relegated to the trash after
discovering that an earlier, pre-edited manuscript had been published.
The decision to proceed with circulation of the unedited review copies
yielded a number of unexpected surprises.
Midwest Book Review called The Last Autopsy, "a Dark Steven King Type
Novel. HP Lovecraft Meets Middle Class American Values." Midwest
reviewer Shelly Glodowski awarded the book five stars on Amazon.com
Hidden Mysteries soon added The Last Autopsy to its unique selections.
Hidden Mysteries seldom offers fiction titles, except in rare cases
where the novel is based on a true story, or the content of the novel is
revealing of a foundational truth in our society.
The Last Autopsy was later chosen a Disciples Study student resource
selection. Published in February 2003, The Last Autopsy & Other
Inimitable Tales was listed under the New and Noteworthy section of
NewPages.com, alternatives in print and media. from the publisher
Glen Hollow was a small innocent town nestled in America's heartland. Life had been slow, safe, and predictable
till residents of a nearby county started dying. Concerns over the distant deaths turn to terror when the body
of a local girl is discovered in a snowy ditch behind a car repair shop. Under enormous pressure to decipher
the death and catch the killer, a retired coroner rushes the body to a makeshift morgue. A religious rogue is
arrested and charged with murder. During his trial, disturbing rumor surface and pique th einterest of the
neational media. As the media probes deeper, they begin to unearth an unholy secret. Now, identifying the
killer becomes an intricate puzzle. Under the white-hot spotlight of the media, the small town of Glen Hollow
struggles to define established religious paradigms about when life begins and when life ends. A second man is
charged with murder and a jury has to decide if the murdered girl actually died twice. In a remarkable
conclusion, the reader witnesses how the search for truth liberates one man and destroys another. from the

I'm glad that I had the chance to read these stories.
Zaenglein certainly offers some bizarre reading on contemporary issues.
While I hope that the Twilight Zone nature of these stories will not come
true, I know that the real world is so bizarre in its disrespect for life
that the fictional may become the reality. If that were to happen, the
question then becomes: how do we prepare for such a bizarre world?
