Poet and essayist JUDITH SORNBERGER
was born and raised in Omaha, her family going back for
several generations in the state, from Swedish immigrant farmers in
Stromsburg to cattle ranchers in Hyannis.
She earned her BA, MA, and PhD from the University of Nebraska
Lincoln.
Her books include Open Heart (published under the name Judith
Mickel
Sornberger in 1993) and Judith Beheading Holofernes, which won the
Talent House Press chapbook contest in 1992. Other books include
Bifocals Barbie: a Midlife Pantheon (1996) and All My
Grandmothers Could Sing / Poems by Nebraska Women (1984, as
editor). Her poems And essays have appeared in Prairie Schooner, Puerto
del Sol, The American Voice, Denver Quarterly, Gulf Stream, Iris, and
Calyx. She is a professor of English and Women's Studies
at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania.
