Nebraska's literary lights will be shining in Chadron the weekend of
September 17-19, 1999 as the Nebraska Literature Festival gets
underway. This year, the annual celebration of Nebraska writers and
writing becomes truly a statewide event, hosted for the first time in
western Nebraska, on the campus of
Chadron State College. Other sponsors include
the
Nebraska Center for the Book, the
Nebraska Humanities Council,
Oglala Lakota College, and the
Mari Sandoz
Heritage Society, with additional funding from the
Heartland Art Fund and
the
Nebraska Division of Travel and Tourism.
The schedule is filled with delights, including workshops led by state
poet
William Kloefkorn,
Twyla Hansen, Dan O'Brien, and many other
writer-teachers. There will be performances by Mexican and Irish dancers,
Indian storytellers, and cowboy poets. Panels will discuss literature by
Nebraska's classic and contemporary writers. Not to mention a theatrical
presentation by Nebraska playwright Dough Marr. And a book fair. And
music. And more, much
more. So saddle up and head on out to Chadron to celebrate Nebraska's best
writers and writing.
