Poet and fiction writer DONAL HEFFERNAN was born and raised near Homer, Nebraska,
where his family has nurtured Nebraska lands for over 130 years as farmers.
He attended the University of Nebraska on a track scholarship for two years,
but had to return home and run the farm when his father became ill.
He grew up near near the Winnebago reservation, later becoming
counsel for the American Indian Movement, serving as a
member of the Wounded Knee trial team in the 70s.
Small presses have published three of his books of poetry and short fiction, including
Orion (Lone Oak Press, 1993), Duets of Motion (Lone Oak Press, 2001),
and Hillsides.
His poems and stories have appeared in Paintbrush and elsewhere.
A member of the Poets and Writers group in NYC and PEN,
he is currently working with a publisher to publish his novel
Lakota Windows
