MARILYN COFFEY is a writer of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction who likes to say that she
was born in south central Nebraska, so close to the Kansas border that had her mother turned the opposite way in bed,
she'd be a Kansan.
She attended Kearney State Teachers' College, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (where she
majored in journalism), and Brooklyn College, where she earned her MFA in creative writing.
She also studied with Allen Ginsberg in the Zen Mountain Monastery near Woodstock, NY,
She's the author of the Pushcart prize-winning poem "Pricksong" and a book-length poem, The Cretan Cycle.
More than 146 of her poems have been published, in New American Review, Sunbury, New
England Journal, Manhattan Poetry Review, and elsewhere.
She's also the author of a novel, Marcella and a memoir, Great Plains Patchwork.
She is a retired associate professor of English, having taught at Boston
University, Pratt Institute, and Fort Hays [KS] State University.
