MICHAEL CARTWRIGHT was born and raised in Whitney. He is a professor of English at Chadron State College, a rancher, and a nature writer. He taught ten years in California after receiving his Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska--Lincoln. His most recent publications include "Wildlife" (NEBRASKAland, July 1995).
