SHIRLEY BUETTNER, a Kearney farm woman, taught writing in the University of Nebraska — Kearney English Department and has published poetry widely. Her poems have appeared in Prairie Schooner, Kansas Quarterly, Cottonwood Review, Pacific Review, Abraxas, and other small press publications. Two collections of poetry, Walking Out the Dark and Thorns, were published by Juniper Press. Her poems have appeared in several anthologies. Since a major stroke in 1991, she has been retired.
