Poet and fiction writer RON BLOCK was born in Gothenburg,
a town of 3500 that lists no less than thirty-four Blocks in the phone
directory. He attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln and
graduate school at Syracuse University, receiving both an MS in
telecommunications and an MA in creative writing. He is
the author of a collection of short stories called
The Dirty Shame Hotel (winner of the Minnesota Voices Project from
New Rivers
Press), Dismal River (New Rivers Press), and Prairie Volcano
(Dakotah Territory). He has taught English and Film Studies at North
Dakota State University, creative writing and literature at Marquette
University, and additional classes at Milwaukee Area Technical College.
He teaches at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. He has held a variety of
jobs besides teaching constructing a rodeo, binding books,
writing film reviews, tooling leather, and farming with his father.
In 2000 he won a Distinguished Achievement Award from the Nebraska Arts
Council.
