JOHN STRULOEFF is a writer of fiction, poetry, and creative nonficiton who holds a
BA from Oregon State University and the MA and PhD from the University of Nebraska
Lincoln. He is currently a Stegner Fellow in the creative writing program at Stanford
University. His work has
been published or is forthcoming in more than twenty journals and magazines,
including The Atlantic, The Literary Review, Other Voices, Rattle, Poet Lore, The South Carolina
Review, and Writers' Forum. His awards include placing as a semifinalist
for the Iowa Short Fiction Award for his story collection,
Animals; a Tennessee Williams Scholarship at the Sewanee Writers' Conference;
the Vreeland Award for Literary Merit; and the Mari Sandoz/Prairie Schooner Award for
Short Fiction; and a Pushcart nomination.
Most of his work is set in the Northwest, particularly the mountains
along the North Oregon Coast, where he grew up. Struloeff says,
"I find myself living there in my writing, For me that's
the most fascinating stuff to work with."
