2002 NEBRASKA BOOK FESTIVAL TO BE HOSTED BY STUHR MUSEUM
The 2002 Nebraska Book Festival will be held on Friday and
Saturday, September 13 and 14, at Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer from
10 A.M. until 5 P.M. The theme for this year's event is "A Sense of Time, A
Sense of Place". Since this annual event began in 1991, it has
traditionally been held at a university or college location.
"The Nebraska Book Festival was originally scheduled to take place the
first day at Stuhr Museum and the second day at the University of
Nebraska-Kearney. On-campus construction at UNK caused the planning
committee to move the entire festival to Stuhr," explained Pam Snow,
Festival Chair. "Considering the event's history of traditionally being
located at a university or in an academic setting, this is a wonderful
honor and a terrific opportunity for our community!"
On Friday, September 13, hands-on activities, writing exercises, and author
presentations will focus on middle and high school students from across
Nebraska. The Friday evening celebration, to be held at the Riverside
Country Club, will include a meal, program, and presentations of the NCB
(Nebraska Center for the Book) Book Awards, the Mildred Bennet Award and
the Jane Geske Award. Guest speaker and Master of Ceremonies will be
announced at a later date.
The general public is invited to attend the Saturday activities that will
include book displays from various publishers and literary centers,
readings by a diverse collection of writers, and an assortment of
entertaining programs. Appropriately matched programs and museum venues
will enhance the overall experience for the audience. Some of the
presentations will be devoted to adult interests, others to small children,
and still others to students.
Admission will be $8 on Friday for students and teachers (cost includes
lunch on Friday only) and $5 for all attendees on Saturday. Many of the
displays and events will be outdoors with alternate indoor rain locations.
Program guides and location maps will be available at the museum Gatehouse
both days. The event will be sponsored by the Nebraska Center for the Book
with funding from the Nebraska Humanities Council. For questions regarding
