STEVEN P SCHNEIDER is a poet and critic who has taught at the
University of Nebraska Kearney. His poems and articles have
appeared in many journals, including Prairie Schooner, The
Literary Review, The Beloit Poetry Journal, The Jewish
Spectator, and The North Carolina Literary Review. He is the
author of AR Ammons and the Poetics of Widening Scope
(Fairleigh Dickinson UP, 1994) and is the editor of
Complexities of Motion: New Essays on AR Ammons's Long
Poems (Fairleigh Dickinson UP, 1999).
His collection of poems, Prairie Air Show,
was published by Sandhills Press.
While at UNK, he served as Director of the Fort
Kearny Summer Writers' Conference, a week-long conference devoted
to poetry and fiction writing held at the University of
Nebraska Kearney, and as Director of the English Graduate Studies
Program at UNK.
He is currently Professor and Chair of the English Department at the
University of Texas Pan American.
A 1997 recipient of the
Merit Award from the Nebraska Arts Council's Individual
Artists Fellowships program, he is
an avid tennis player with a 4.0 USTA rating.
