JAMES REED received his MFA from Warren Wilson
College and is a former teacher of
creative writing at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
The former Managing Editor and Fiction Editor of The Nebraska
Review, his short stories have appeared in
Apalachee Quarterly,
Bat City Review, Brilliant Corners, Carolina Quarterly, Sou'wester,
Talking River Review, West Branch,
Parting Gifts, River Styx,
The William and Mary Review, and elsewhere.
He is the recipient of a 2008 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship,
the Charles B Wood Award
for Distinguished Writing, and, from the Nebraska Arts Council, an
Individual Artist Fellowship Master Award in Literature. He was a
finalist in the Flannery O'Connor Short Fiction Award competition in
1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997. He was a 1998 finalist for
Sarabande Books' Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction. A 1998
nominee for the Pushcart Prize, he won Honorable Mention in the FLASH!POINT 2000 Fiction
Competition and a finalist for the HE Francis Literary Competition (2000),
semi-finalist for the Julia Peterkin Award for 2001,
Finalist for the Spokeane Prize for Short Fiction competition for 2001, and
semi-Finalist for the Sandstone Prize in Fiction, 2002.
