MARIAN O'BRIEN PAUL was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and came to Omaha from Turkey as a military wife in 1975 and, except for a Fulbright lectureship in English as a Foreign Language at Cukurova University in Adana, Turkey 1988-89, she has lived in Nebraska ever since. She is a full-time teacher of English at the Elkhorn Valley Campus of Metropolitan Community College, where she teaches writing, creative writing, and literature courses. She is nearly finished with work on a PhD in Creative Writing — Poetry at UNL. A parent of an adult child with mental illness, she wrote op-ed articles published in The Omaha World-Herald in the early 1980s.
