Mount Marty College will present the Great Plains Writers Tour on Tuesday, October 10 at
7:30 PM in Marian Auditorium on the Mount Marty College campus. The evening will feature
Nebraska writers Matt Mason and Sarah
McKinstry-Brown.
Matt Mason received his MA from the University of California at Davis and edits
PoetryMenu.com, a listing of every Nebraska poetry event. Over 100 magazines and
anthologies have published his poems, including Laurel Review, Prairie Schooner,
and Mississippi Review. His first full-length collection, Things We Don’t Know We
Don’t Know (The Backwaters Press, 2006) was listed at number 12 on best seller lists
for contemporary poetry. Matt has read his poetry at the Nebraska Book Festival, the
National Poetry Slam, and at venues across the country.
Sarah McKinstry-Brown studied poetry at the University of New Mexico and the
University of Sheffield, England. Her poems have been published everywhere from magazines
such as the rag to Albuquerque’s city buses, on Omaha’s bus benches and West Virginia's
Standardized tests. Most recently, she won the Blue Light Poetry Prize for her collection
When You Are Born. When she’s not reading or teaching writing workshops across the Midwest,
Sarah makes her home in Omaha, NE with her husband, Matt Mason and their daughter, Sophia.
