MATT MASON received his MA in English from the Creative Writing Workshop at the University of California at Davis in 1994, then returned to Omaha, where he works to promote public poetry readings and poetry readers through The Nebraska Poetry Menu, an online listing of poetry events at http://poetrymenu.com. Mason has six poetry chapbooks available, including Mistranslating Neruda from New Michigan Press and his latest, When The Bough Breaks, from Lone Willow Press. Mason enjoys a variety of different venues: he's read at the Nebraska Book Festival, the Western Literature Association's annual conference, the Nebraska State Fair and Wayne State University's Plains Writers Series but also loves poetry slam competitions, winning several in Nebraska, Iowa, New Mexico and at the Green Mill in Chicago, where slam began. He runs the monthly poetry slam and open mic at the Omaha Healing Arts Center (8pm, 2nd Saturday of every month) and was on the 2002 Des Moines slam team, the 2003 Omaha team (which made it to semi-finals at the National Poetry Slam) and the 2005 Omaha team. His poems have been accepted by Logan House Press's The Logan house Anthology of 21st Century American Poetry and magazines such as Prairie Schooner, Green Mountains Review, The Laurel Review, Poet Lore, Mid-American Review, Rhino, Chiron Review; a poem of his was read on Radio Nederlands: Wereldomroep as a runner-up in their competition on science poetry; and a poem of his was selected as poem of the week by MobyLives. Matt has helped with poetry events for bookstores, high schools, junior highs, colleges, and libraries. He's one of the editors of the anthology Slamma Lamma Ding Dong: An Anthology of Nebraska's Slam Poets (iUniverse, 2006).
