Introducing Nebraska's latest literary event!! People
from all over the state (and even some from Colorado and Iowa) will be
gathering near
Alliance,
Nebraska, to celebrate the
Summer Solstice, the
longest day of the year, with the longest poetry reading of the year. The
celebration will take place at
CARHENGE
in honor of its 10th Anniversary.
In additon to the poetry reading--featuring
Bob McEwen,
Greg Kosmicki,
Tamora Whitney, and
Twyla Hansen--there
will be refereshments, a performance
by a local drama group, an open contest for the poem that best embodies the
SPIRIT OF CARHENGE, and to close out this evening, a bonfire and a concert by
Omaha's own Darktown House Band.

Now about the contest
The FRIENDS OF CARHENGE are sponsoring a contest for the poem that best embodies THE SPIRIT OF CARHENGE. To enter the contest, you must present a typed copy of your poem (with your name, address, and phone number indicated on it) to the panel of judges at CARHENGE on June 21, 1997. Poems may be any form or style, but must not exceed 50 lines in length. Only entries presented in person at SOLSTICE '97 will be considered. Winners will be asked to read their poems at the end of the day. Among the judges will be Nebraska poets R.F. McEwen and Twyla Hansen. Awards for the winning poems are as follows:
