Nebraska Poets Calendar

The editors of the Nebraska Poets Calendar are calling for submissions. The deadline will be July 24. The poems must be written by a Nebraska poet, be 30 lines or shorter, and relate in some way (a lot of leeway is given here) to a month or season in Nebraska. Many of the poems selected have centered on natural images, but this is not a requirement.

Since the calendar promotes poetry reading by the general public, the poems should be suited for everybody — students, grandparents, scholars, farmers, city dwellers, and discriminating poets alike. The editors prefer poems without graphic language and overt sexual content. Send submissions by e-mail to msfairchild@alltel.net or by mail to 3607 B Street, Lincoln, NE 68510.

They're also looking for Nebraska artwork that complements the poetry selected. The images should reproduce well in black and white. Although artists may submit particular pieces through e-mail or mail, the editors are particularly interested in seeing a body of work, possibly selecting art from existing work and sometimes asking the artist to create a piece to complement a particular poem.

They believe artists and poets should be paid, but have a very limited budget. Small honoraria will be paid to poets and artists for one-time rights to publish their work.
