HUGH REILLY is a native of Omaha, Nebraska. He earned a BA in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) and attended the University of Northern Colorado and Arizona University before finishing his Masters degree in Communication at UNO.
Reilly worked for two newspapers, the Omaha World-Herald and the Greeley (CO) Tribune. He was a copywriter and account executive for a small advertising agency, was a marketing manager, and Area Marketing Manager for cable TV companies in Castle Rock, Colorado, Annapolis, Maryland and Chicago, Illinois. He served as a Regional Marketing Manager for the international non-profit “Up With People” and worked for Girls and Boys Town for eleven years in public relations, marketing and fund-raising. He is currently an Assistant Professor at UNO where he teaches courses in advertising, public relations, speech and creative writing. He has led annual tours to Ireland and the British Isles since 1992.
Reilly has had dozens of articles published in newspapers and regional and national magazines such as Nebraska Life, UNO Alum, and AAA Home and Away. He has published four books, Boys Town a Photo History (co-author), Marketing Workbook for Non-Profits, Letters From the Front (co-author) and the recently published History of Omaha and Douglas County, a photo-history book he has co-written with his father, Robert T. Reilly.
He has written several journal articles and chapters for academic books and is currently in negotiation with Praeger Publishing for a book on the Plains Indian wars highlighted by the coverage of these wars by the frontier media. He is married and the father of four children.
