Poet NANCY PETERS HASTINGS was born in Lincoln, Nebraska,
and lived with her family in the
Bridgeport, Nebraska, area until moving to DeWitt, Nebraska,
where she attended grade
school and high school. She attended the University of
Nebraska Lincoln, where she
earned a Master's Degree in English in 1977, and a second
Master's in Classical Greek in
1985. She has worked as an artist-in-the schools in Nebraska
since 1975, earning the title
of "Master Artist" from the Nebraska Arts Council.
Ms Hastings is the author of
A Quiet I Carry With Me (A Slow
Tempo Press, 1994). Her work has appeared in
Poetry, Puetro Del Sol, Prairie Schooner, Commonweal, Pebble,
and other literary magazines. Her early poems use Nebraska as a prominent
landscape. She founded Whole Notes, a
small literary magazine in 1984, and
continues to edit it. She twice received the Leonard Randolph
Small Press Award for
Whole Notes (1986 & 1987). She is an approved artist for the
National Endowment for the Arts'
"Artist-in-the-Schools/Communities Program" in Nebraska,
New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
In 1995 she received a Fellowship to the White River Writers'
Conference at Lyon College. She lives in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
