Poet and playwright
GENE FENDT has lived in Kearney since 1987 and teaches philosophy at the
University of Nebraska at Kearney. He
has published over fifty poems, in Aethlon, California Quarterly,
Cicada, Whole Notes, Puerto del Sol, Theology Today,
Platte Valley Review, Nimrod, Nebraska Review, and other journals; published
collaborative chapbooks with Don Welch The Cranes: A book of hours (calligraphy
by Art Pierce) and Don Welch and HL Hix The Poem No One has Written
He has published extensively in philosophy, particularly in the areas of
philosophy and literature and philosophy of religion.
He holds a BA from Marquette University, an MA from The University of Chicago, a
PhD from The University of Texas at Austin, and is a 2006 recipient of the Merit Award
from the Nebraska Arts Council. His past awards include a previous NAC
Individual Artist Fellowship in Playwriting, and a Commendation from the National Poetry
Competition. His one-act play
"Time's Wing'ed Footstep" premiered at the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery in September of 2007.
