SARAH FAIRCHILD received her B.A. from Doane
College and her M.A. from the
University of Nebraska. She has worked as a reader at the Prairie
Schooner
and on the staff of the Great Plains Quarterly. In addition to her
activities
as Editor/Publisher of Black Star Press, in Lincoln Nebraska, Sarah also
periodically indexes books for the University of Nebraska Press, teaches
creative writing, poetry and grammar at Southeast Community College in
Lincoln, mentors gifted children through the Lincoln Public School System and
is a special ed para-educator at Morley Elementary School, working with
Autistic and Down Syndrome children.
Her poetry has been published in Whole Notes, Plainsong, Dragonfly,
Brussels
Sprout, Inkstone, Saint Judith Light, and The Lyric.
Her master's thesis, a collection of poems entitled Salt Valley
Seasons
(1986), is available at Love Library at the University of Nebraska.
Her awards include 1st place in the state, 2nd place in the nation in the
Bi-centennial Competition sponsored by The National Council of Teachers of
English and the State of Pennsylvania (1976), 3rd place in The Lyric's
College Poetry Contest (1981), and 2nd place in the Academy of Poets contest
at the University of Nebraska (1986).
