THOMAS BAIRD was a native Nebraskan (born 1923) and the author of
many novels. He received his BA (1946) and MFA (1950) from Princeton University, where he
taught art history for several years. He later lectured at the Frick Collection
and, until 1970, served as curator at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
He then taught art history at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, retiring in 1989.
He died of a heart attack in 1990.
His many novels include
Triumphal Entry (1962), The Old Masters (1963),
People Who Pull You Down (1970), Poor Millie, (1978), and
Villa Aphrodite (1984).
He was an inveterate backpacker, which provided material for much of his fiction.
His manuscripts and papers are held at the Princeton University Library.
